About

My work centers on the beauty of the everyday, exploring how the mundane objects of our lives hold power as cultural artifacts and emotional touchstones. Through the lens of minimalist pop art photography, I seek to celebrate simplicity while infusing nostalgia and whimsy into the ordinary.

I focus my camera on subjects often overlooked as art: Mold-A-Rama figures, vintage lunchboxes, and humble plastic toys like green army men. These items, steeped in history and memory, tell stories of mass production, childhood imagination, and fleeting trends. By isolating them in clean compositions and stripping away distractions, I elevate their design and function to center stage, utilizing photography techniques that allow the subjects to be displayed in extra-large formats making the familiar seem fresh and extraordinary.

My photography strives to bridge the gap between the personal and the universal, inviting viewers to reconnect with objects from their own histories or discover new meaning in items once thought to be trivial. With every shot, I aim to create an interplay of humor, nostalgia, and reverence, honoring the imperfections and charm of what might otherwise be considered throwaway treasures.

Artist Bio:

Jason Kleist is a Wisconsin-based photographer whose journey into the world of photography began during his adolescence. What started as a cherished hobby blossomed into a creative pursuit, leading him to explore a wide range of styles. From capturing the serenity of nature to the vibrancy of travel, the grit of street scenes, and the wonder of the night sky, Jason's early work was marked by experimentation and a quest for artistic growth.

Over time, Jason discovered his signature style: minimalist pop art object photography. His high-key compositions, shot in high resolution, emphasize the essence of each object, offering viewers a striking and unapologetically bold visual experience. This approach has allowed him to create large-scale prints that celebrate the objects themselves as art.

A pivotal moment in his artistic evolution came as he documented his vintage lunchbox collection. Through his lens, Jason unearthed the cultural significance and personal nostalgia embedded in these items. He revealed their ability to tell stories of mass production, the imagination of childhood, and passing trends that define eras.

Jason's work invites the viewer to reconsider the everyday, drawing attention to the interplay between memory, history, and the objects that shape our lives. His photography is a celebration of simplicity, imagination, and the enduring power of storytelling through imagery.
